Pinterest “lets you organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web” with anyone. This popular pioneer in the new trend of visual bookmarking is a free service for everyone. It’s fun to use and its user base is growing incredibly fast. Last month alone, Pinterest received 104.4 million unique site visits, landing them third in line behind only Facebook and Twitter. That’s pretty mind-blowing. This unprecedented growth is likely due to the friendly atmosphere that is created specifically by each individual user. If all you want to see when you log in are pictures of baby giraffes, whatever this is (no judging), or in our case, beautiful campaigns, then by all means go for it. Pinterest steps out of the way and allows you to make their product yours – and now you can share that customized bank of inspiration with your subscribers.
Pinterest can be a great asset to any company. Think of it as a public space where you can find common ground with your customers, thanks to a shared love of pretty pictures. Pin what you love—whether it’s badass machines, delicious food, or modern furniture.
To use this integration, head over to the Pinterest Chimplet.
We’re always trying to find new ways to accomodate the needs of our users, and this integration is no exception. Type in your Pinterest username and you will instantly see a drop-down menu of your individual boards to choose from. You can create your campaign using all of your pins, or your pins from just one board!
Next up, choose a template. We have four options for you, designed to give you control over the frequency and layout of your campaign. Share your pins once with 1 or 3 columns, or set up an RSS campaign to keep your subscribers inspired on a weekly basis. The 1-column template scrolls beautifully on a Smartphone, so keep that in mind while tailoring your campaign to the habits of your subscribers.
When you’ve found the perfect template, create your campaign. If you have more than one subscriber list, you’ll be able to select one of them next. Hit “Done”. Now you can either view your campaign in MailChimp before sending it, or you can start over and set up a different campaign from one of your other boards.
Once you’re back in the MailChimp app, edit your campaign just like you would any other MailChimp campaign. Set up an A/B test, or adjust the frequency of your RSS campaign. The power is yours. Now check out your beautiful email:
The images in your campaign will click-through to the associated pin on Pinterest, and your subscribers can even choose to re-pin you right from your email.
Enjoy this new integration and happy pinning!

Awesome integration, and love your board! What I’d like to see in the future would be a way to automatically post a campaign to Pinterest when the campaign goes out. Possible? Thank you!
I would love to see that too. Or at least a merge tag so my readers can post on their pinterest.

I have seen so many retail stores already jumping on to help move merchandise. I have heard that the pricing banner that goes across the left top corner of images is not increasing click through however. I would suggest if you are retail on Pinterest to test with and without pricing banners to see what works better for you.
MailChimp now allows you to integrate your Pinterest account (or pins) into a campaign. Will this feature be… http://t.co/XHrze5L7
I know a few nonprofits using @MailChimp, so I thought this Pinterest integration would be of interest. It sounds cool: http://t.co/wDDVT9PH
Tried to create an RSS campaign, but this came: We found an error processing your request. Please try again. Error creating the campaign (url – http://pinterest.chimplets.com/iblogpins.rss is not a valid RSS feed.)
What to do?
Hi Peter,
Thanks for giving it a try! Sorry for the inconvenience though. Your RSS should be working now. Please try again and let us know if everything goes as it should.
All the best,
Will
Thank you so much for creating this! I’m sure I’m being dumb, but is there a way to make it a recurring campaign (i.e., to go out once a week with the latest pins?) Basically like an RSS campaign, but using this Pinterest setup. I’m sure I’m just missing it, but any advice would be very helpful! Thank you again from a HUGE Pinterest fan.
Hey Joan,
Sure, there are four templates: Two of them are for regular campaigns, and two for RSS campaigns. Also, note that there are two templates designed to be Mobile Friendly (again, one for regular and one for RSS campaigns).

I just started using Mailchimp and started exploring it, switching from Verticalresponse. I am beginning to love all the integration. What really surprised me was when my son came in last Friday wearing the Mailchimp cap. I asked him how he got this cap. He said his company – ‘Livestream’ is a big time user of mailchimp and he got this ‘gift’ from the co. Wow – I thought I discovered Mailchimp!
Hmm, we’ll have to send you some extra chimpy schwag to blow your son away. :-) Look for a separate email…
Wow, this is a seriously awesome little feature – I think that our clients would seriously give MailChimp a once over after seeing this functionality.
Received the Chimpy Schwag as Promised. Great Stuff. Once again, this is a superlative example of Great customer service. Keep up the good work guys! You’ve just gotten yourself a new paying customer!
I was a fan of Pinterest until it forced me into “upgrading” to Facebook Timeline. So frustrating.
That is just too cool!! :-)
I want to know more about pinterest and my products displayed ?
Hi there, I tried to create a campaign, but received the following error on both Google Chrome and Firefox:
Fatal error: Uncaught invalid_token: invalid_token thrown in /opt/chimpfeedr/lib/MC/OAuth2Client.php on line 226
Me too. Please help! Fatal error: Uncaught invalid_token: invalid_token thrown in /opt/chimpfeedr/lib/MC/OAuth2Client.php on line 226
I must say, I HEART MAILCHIMP! By far the coolest and the best email marketing service I have worked with.
When I try to use the chimplet I get this error code after entering my mailchimp login information:
Fatal error: Uncaught invalid_token: invalid_token thrown in /opt/chimpfeedr/lib/MC/OAuth2Client.php on line 226
HI Laura. Sorry for the inconvenience. Can you please try again?
looks good now!
This doesn’t seem to work if we’re integrated with Google Apps for Business- we’re unable to connect the account. I tried using the long username (oid) but that doesn’t work either. Any suggestions?
Hi Scott,
Please go to your MailChimp account, Account -> Username/Password option and set a new password for the account (don’t touch the oid:: username!). Then, try to use this new credentials (oid+new password) in the integration.
This should make it works for you. Please, report back if that’s the case.
All the best,
Will
That’s working now, thanks!
Super idea! But…. when I enter my Pinterest username, I can not choose any from my boards. Unfortunately I only get “all” my pins, collected in a Mailchimp campaign. Seems like it does not recognize my account… Any suggestions?
Hey! Board selection is currently unavailable but that doesn’t mean that you can’t create board-specific campaigns!
Just enter the name of the board and that’s it. I.e.- People I Admire

Hi Will – thank you for your reply. I have tried this several times. When I leave the box for boards empty, the campaign shows my last pins in general. When I provide the name of a specific board, it does not recognize my username anymore. Clearly I make a mistake, but cannot figure out how to correct it. Any last clues for me?
Hey. Can you get in touch with support? I’m sure they will help you figure this out.
I was looking for a way to touch our customer referral partners on a weekly basis without being too corporate speak. This was just the ticket! I sent the first Pinterest integration email out yesterday and received great reviews. Even our full-time sales persons were pumped up. Thanks for the awesome…simple…email integration.
Just a little usability note for you. While the email was a huge success as far as open rate, I noticed that the CTR (click-though-rate) was super low. I took a poll and consensus says there was nothing that gave the reader indication that they needed to click on the image for more information. Now, I would have known that when the cursor turns to a hand you can do this, but not everyone instinctively knows this. I am considering adding this information in the header box and enlarging the font size. Any thoughts MailChimp?
Hi Wendy,
Thanks for your words. Yes, you can add an introductory message. You can also modify the templates to make it more obvious for the users to click on the images. This is easier on the Rss-To-Email templates I guess.
Uhmm… No promises but I’ll try to bribe one of our designers to make those changes directly into the integration. Let’s cross our fingers!
I went to work after I replied to you… and your comment kept bouncing in my head. You said the open rate was a success. Click rate, poor. What about “Repin” rate? Just curious :)
This is one of those things where user behavior might change once they get the hang of this new Pinterest thing. Still, worth a shot changing the text for now. Makes me wonder what might happen if you experimented a little by throwing in some kind of photo that’s waaaaay off the wall (funny, crazy, etc). See if people are just looking for something cool(er) to click?
Is there a way to integrate pins into another RSS campaign? Eg. I have a campaign set up for my Tumblr blog, and I’d like to add a section that displays my most recent pins.
Andrea,
Yes, there is! You can include the RSS feed we use for our RSS Pinterest Campaigns into your Tumblr Campaign using the FEED merge tag.
Here’s a blog post about it: http://blog.mailchimp.com/new-feed-merge-tag-options/
Can you please tell me how i can install a pinterest widget IN my newsletter that would allow people to pin the newsletter to a board?
Hi Nicole, We don’t have a specific integration to add a Pinterest widget within a campaign. If however you’re ok with a little bit of code, you could head over to: http://pinterest.com/about/goodies/ Once there you’d need to head to the “Pin It Button for Websites section. You’d need to add the *|ARCHIVE|* merge tag in the URL, and then you’d need to take care of grabbing a screen shot of your campaign prior to sending it. That screen shot would need to be hosted somewhere. Once the link is created, you’d need to remove the “http://” from the code preceeding *|ARCHIVE|* and make sure you just use the code without using the javascript code listed in a separate box. (Javascript and email don’t go together) Paste that modified code into the code version of your email, test it and it should be good to go. It sounds like a lot, but it’s not too bad at all if you’re comfortable with code.
I am going to test it soon! Looks great
Love the integration with Pinterest – but can someone tell me how to delete a pin that shows up in your campaign? I would like to edit to only my finest pics, but it won’t seem to let me delete the pin block. I’d really appreciate any tips!
Hi Kathryn, This integration works by sharing the whole board(s) that you choose, so there’s not a way to handle it integration side. One thing you could do is to setup a pin board where you repin only your top pins and then use the integration with that “Top Pins” board to achieve the same result.
