How Risky Is Your Email List?

We put together this set of guidelines
to help new users determine if it’s okay to import their email lists into MailChimp. But it’s probably useful whether you’re using MailChimp, some other service provider, or even your own email server.

The list includes some risky email list scenarios that we’ve witnessed after helping thousands of users send tens of millions of emails since 2001. Some scenarios can lead to tons of abuse reports, so we included some advice on how to prevent yourself from being labeled as a spammer.

It covers situations like: real estate agents sending to local interest groups, salesmen sending to their entire Rolodex, tradeshow vendors sending blanket newsletters to attendees, photographers sending to art buyer lists, agencies sending on behalf of clients, the dreaded "fish bowl o’ business cards" and more…
