They are not being shown random emails and asked to judge them, nor are they reading anybody else's email. My understanding is that you can not apply to be part of the panel, and that you only get asked to review a few messages before your participation ends so that nobody is a frequent contributor or could skew the results.

Hi Ben,

I’m sorry if I wasn’t completely clear about whose email the panelists review, but it is only email that was originally intended for them. I loved this snippet: "If it sounds like you need humility and patience to do permission marketing, you're right. That's why so few companies do it properly. The best shortcut, in this case, is no shortcut at all."

Thanks, JD. That's in line with the MSN privacy policies, too. That's not what you need to focus on, anyway. Focus on keeping your subscribers happy. The people at MS being asked to determine if your email is spam or not spam are your existing subscribers. If your subscribers are rating your mail as spam, then you should stand up and take notice. There is something you are doing that is causing your recipients to perceive your email as spam. These are not people who have never heard of your company before. These are people who have given you their email address at some point and who you believe want to hear from you. There is disconnect between expectations and ISPs believe their customers (your recipients) when the recipients says the mail they are receiving is spam.

The critical bit in this is not that strangers are reading your emails.
