A while ago we told you about our email template design contest, called the Template Throwdown. Basically we were looking for a reason to make Blaine ‘fisticuffs’ McHale put on tights and get in a wrestling ring. Plus we wanted to give away these amazing Championship Wrestling Belts. Since they’re authentic wrestling belts from Wildcat, and since we threw in $600 in cash to sweeten the deal, we wanted the winners to really have to work for their Champion status. I don’t know if you’ve ever tried coding html email templates, but believe me, it’s no walk in the park.

The challenging part of the contest was that we weren’t just asking them to design an html email, we were asking them to design an html email template using our template language and make it editable within our application. Ben wrote a nice ninja-related guide to the art of email jitsu to help, but it was still hard work.

Which is why we were stunned to receive over 70 entries to the Template Throwdown. After many rounds of voting, we selected 3 Template Throwdown winners plus 3 honorable mentions.

The winners’ templates are now available for anyone to use inside our application and the wrestling belts and bags o’ cash have been sent to reward these champions for their hard work. One winner, Scott from Indiemark, already made a video commemorating his new status as an html Template Champion.
