Why we love them: Kasey and Matthew connect food to music, as their tagline goes, but they do so with great design and obvious passion. Plus, their monthly pairings box—which includes a seven-inch vinyl single, a digital mixtape, dried ingredients, and recipe cards—is just plain rad.

Who: Ken Segall 
What: A creative director and author
Where: Dobbs Ferry, NY
Why we love him: Working alongside Steve Jobs for a dozen years, Ken Segall named the iMac and helped develop the company’s “Think Different” campaign. With his new book, Insanely Simple, he explains and illustrates the 10 elements of simplicity that Jobs enforced as he built the Apple empire. “How is it that Apple could so consistently outthink and outmarket monoliths who possess greater resources or market share?” Segall asks on his website. “The answer is surprisingly uncomplicated.”

Why we love him: He’s found a place for his distinctive style in outlets as varied as Businessweek, AirTran, and Tiger beer. Whether he’s drawing Al Green, working on a children’s book with a cast member from The Wire, or finding inspiration in Occupy Wall Street, Malloy’s illustrations tell stories through pictures.

What: A website that connects buyers and sellers
Where: San Francisco
Why we love them: Using Zaarly’s free community, you can easily conduct transactions with people and small businesses in your neighborhood. By encouraging conversation and keeping money local in a safe, hassle-free fashion, Zaarly fosters community all over the United States.

Who: The Goat Farm 
What: A renovated 12-acre, mid-Victorian industrial site turned arts center
Where: Atlanta
Why we love them: The folks behind the Goat Farm have remodeled an “underutilized historic site” into an Atlanta gem in the past few years, one that now hosts events of all kinds, including art performances and installations, as well as legendary rockers live in concert. The site is home to a critically acclaimed weekly supper club, a cafe/library, an organic farm, a 5000-square-foot contemporary dancefloor, and studios with more than 350 artists working in them. To say their mission “to push culture forward through comprehensive support of the arts” is working would be a ridiculous understatement.
