What I find interesting is not so much how someone at MailChimp put my face on one of the dancing elves (though I did get a chuckle out of my breakdance routine), but that this year, there’s a “Report for Abuse” link in the upper left corner.
I don’t recall that being on last year’s Elf thing.
This reminds me. While doing research for a presentation on “The Abuse of Freemium” early this year, I was amazed at how many places I found “report abuse” links. I put together this slide:
The point I was trying to make was that if you’re a startup that’s building a web app, you’re probably not thinking all that much about abuse in the early stages. You know it’s inevitable, but your attitude is probably, “we’ll cross that bridge when we get there.”
Rightfully so. You can’t let fear get the best of you.
But you will cross that bridge.
