It’s super easy now to customize your signup forms in MailChimp. You can add dropdown boxes, dates (as in birthdays, anniversaries, etc), phone number fields, and more — without having to code a single line of HTML!
Just look for the “add-a-field” buttons on the right side of the List Form Designer (here’s a demo video):
Update: And if our new visual form designer still doesn’t quite do it for you, go build a beautiful form in Wufoo, then link it to your MailChimp list.
Wow! Ben!… this is FANTASTIC!
I was just “killing some time” and wanted to see how the upgrade went this weekend… checked the blog… and discovered this video tutorial! Can’t wait to modify our organization’s form with these easy tools.
Thanks so much for ALL your work to improve an already AWESOME info/marketing service.
I’m still disappointed that the form I designed in the visual editor wasn’t available in the ‘integration’ tab.
The form available in the integration tab was totally different and the code that one has to copy and paste is bulky.
I like the javascript aweber version. I also like how in aweber you can design the entire form with content above and below the signup form and all the changes automagically take place on my website from the same javascript code.
but on the flip side mailchimp has way better features.
Can you look into making the integration more userfriendly especially for us aweber wannabe converts
Absolutely brilliant guys! It’s so smooth, simple, easy and incredibly customizable. One of the best online form generators I’ve come across, I can tell a lot of love went into it
Hi, I’m just wondering if its possible to add Google Analytics code without having to go to advanced mode.
Thanks.
If I understand you correctly, yes: you can go to your list tools, then add google analytics tracking to your signup process. See this KB article: http://eepurl.com/hcXP
Can this form work on my WordPress website. I tried the MailChimp WordPress plugin but it did not seem to work.
It should work fine on any site. There are some occasions where some WP plugins interfere with each other, so if you’re having issues, I’d recommend talking to our support team.
i’m having problem with the form..
for some reason, i can’t remove the field “preferred format” where one can select what type of email to receive either, html, text, or phone.
I want this really to be remove.can any one help me with this?
That’s something you remove in your list default settings.
Go to Lists –> List name and defaults –> uncheck the option: “let your subscribers pick an email format?”
Hi Ben,
Awesome work! I’m integrating MailChimp API into our free online crm tool and I was wondering if there were any plans to make the form builder a plugin for external use.
i.e. for the user to create mailchimp signup forms for their site which we’d then use with API to let them create campaigns etc
Cheers
Dan
Others have already done this (really well) so we never felt the need. Some examples:

http://blog.mailchimp.com/formspring-integration-with-mailchimp/
Hi Ben!
Thanks for the swift reply
I’ll check out the links and we’ll do something similar
Have a great day
Dan
Looking forward to seeing what you come up with. If you’re building a generic contact form that also passes subscriptions to MailChimp, the ones with the most long term success always include an explicit permission-opt-in checkbox option like, “Yes, subscribe me to…”
Hi Ben
Us too!
We’re actually building a MailChimp app for our (Drupal based) content publishing platform (http://www.subhublite.com). The form builder will almost certainly have explicit opt-in permissions as the website owners will only be sending campaigns to their members
It would be great if I could share our development of the MailChimp app development with you on your blog too, would that be of interest?
Cheers
Dan
Hi Ben,
Just have a question re: what you just mentioned
I’ve got a wordpress site where I’m using your plugin for the widget for the sidebar and a generic contact form where I used the Fast Secure Contact Form plugin, but I would like to add a checkbox on the generic contact form that would subscribe the user to the mailchimp list if the box is checked.
What code do I need to add to the generic contact form to have them subscribe?
Thanks for your help!
If I understand you correctly, you’re using another tool (“Fast Secure Contact Form”) for the generic contact form on your site?
That plugin provider would need to use our API to build the checkbox you need.
FWIW, the folks at Wufoo and Formstack do this very well:

Hi there, I love the ability to add fields easily to customise the forms – but was wondering if MailChimp was planning on having this feature available for template design as well?
Thanks
Hi Marko,
If you mean adding form fields to templates, I don’t think so. There are still a lot of email programs out there that won’t properly render forms inside of messages.
I’ve got an issue with my embedded signup form and I haven’t altered the code, just styled it with css.
When users click on the submit button there is no acknowledgement that the button has been clicked. My brother tested is and he clicked submit a few times with nothing happening. Then he checked is email inbox to see multiple ‘confirm’ emails
This is something our support team would need to help diagnose. It could be the embed code got altered, or there’s code somewhere else on the page that’s conflicting with it in some unexpected way. I’ve FWD’d this on to them.
Support suggested re-generating the code with Javascript disabled. This worked perfectly. Thanks!
Is there a way to bring in the MailChimp Form style and colors to Drupal? I can get the form to work fine, but it just a white box and looks boring and not in tune with my site.
Hi,
On the sign-up form Thank you page there is a button which says ‘Go back to our website’ or something similar. This links to our main company website as that is the default site for us, but this sign-up form is in relation to, and linked from a micro-site. How can I either edit this buttons link or remove the button (first option would be better).
Many thanks
J.
Would be great to have a little tutorial on how to create the usual signup form you can see on most websites, which is an input area with the text “your e-mail” then a simple html button that says “subscribe”. the current mailchimp button is so old school… it’d be much better looking if just text, or a gif
How do I add text? Not a text field but I want to add more words than what are available by default. Such as:
Here is the text that is by default
**Here are fields**
I want add information here, such as ‘this is my privacy policy’
Hi Ben,
Si it sounds like the sign-up form is meant to be embedded in a website and can’t be inserted into a Mailchimp campaign or template. Is this correct?
