In the past, we made all our Autoresponders go out at the exact same time (roughly 8pm ET).
Knowing exactly when that process was supposed to kick in like this was good for us back when the feature was new and we weren’t sure about its impact. But as more and more people started to use it, 8pm started to become a little bit of a bottleneck. Suddenly queuing up over 20,000 autoresponder campaigns at once is just not healthy.
So a couple days ago, we changed the process to be more “spread out” over 8 – 12 hrs. As a result, you might start to see your autoresponders arriving in inboxes later or earlier than you usually do. Yep, it’s supposed to do that.
What about birthday mails going to europe? I haven’t done this yet, but I wonder: 8 pm ET is already 00am CET. (which means “too late” -> send one day earlier) That + 8-12 spreadout hours adds further confusion. Is there any way to control this?
I have read tutorial on autorepsponder, but still don’t get what it is used for. I would like a welcome to go out to all new subscribers, whether I enter then at their request or they sign up on my Subscription Form. Is this what it is for? Need more remedial explanation than your tut on this please. Thank you.
Whenever anybody signs up for your list, they get a welcome email. You can and should customize your welcome email for those new subscribers:

We built our autoresponders for something different. I’m going to assume, by looking at your domain name, that you sell satchels on Etsy. So let’s say you have a crafty audience. You might offer up a “Top 10 Satchel Sewing Tips” series of emails that you offer to people if they subscribe. You can schedule the autoresponder to send once a week for 10 weeks. That’s the general idea there.
Hi Ben,
Is there a view to change this in the future? With customers all over the world 8-12PM is a bit of a disaster for us in Europe.
It’d be awesome if they could be scheduled. This way my merge tagged highly personalised plain text email won’t look like it’s been sent by an insomniac robot.
Thanks again.
It’s always been the plan to give autoresponders more scheduling options. This is just something to help with the recent slowdowns that some people have noticed w/their 8pm sends lately. After we implemented this change, other people noticed their autoresponders arriving later than usual — and they were actually happy about it — but I wanted to post this as an explanation to anybody wondering what was going on.
It would be great if you could offer Autoresponder Timewarp of some type. Of particular note would be those people that use Autoresponders for a Birthday wish or something similar. You could always try to set it up to send before their birthday or know that they would get it on their birthday but from an experience viewpoint there is nothing quite as nice as checking your inbox and not seeing bills, but birthday wishes and/or birthday offers bright and early in the morning from your favorite companies, etc. Just a thought!
I would love the ability to choose which time the auto responders go out at. Or at least between morning, afternoon, and evening.
Hi
I’s like to set up a series of automatic newsletter items send out on the weekly basis to those that sign up to our mail chimp account. I can’t work out how to do this. Can you help?
