We’ve been hearing that “daily deal emails are dead” for the past few years, but they never quite seem to disappear. We’ve read about their “troubled” business models and stock valuations, but inboxes around the world continue to receive these plucky deal emails day after day. What’s the real story?
We were curious about the future of Daily Deals, so we did some research. It turns out that time machines are very easy to build, but there’s no guarantee the person you send will return. Going back to the drawing board, we decided to look through our email data. This, of course, was the more difficult approach since we have an abundance of email data.
During the course of our research, we learned interesting things, like using the word “bowling” works better than using the word “game.” For you email nerds out there, we learned that Yahoo may be a popular ISP in the US, but international subscribers prefer to use their Hotmail address. Also, you may not want to use the word “deal” in your email. That was a surprising one. I mean, even if you’re not a daily sender, there might be some tips here for you.
Check out our research: The Truth About Daily Deals where we analyzed 4.4 billion emails from more than 2,000 Daily Deals, and condensed it all into 28 colorful charts.

Great post and very in depth graphs!
Like most things online daily deals will run its course. As businesses abuse the concept the end user becomes sick to death of receiving too many emails!
Daily Deal websites are not really dead, but they are doing everything not to die. See how many non related companies Groupon has acquired in the last 2 years. Their business model obviously is not sustainable for many businesses especially restaurants. Can you imagine someone asking you to give them over 75 cents on every $1 you make. That is exactly what Living Social, Groupon and their likes are doing. With the way technology is going, people will find out with time. Unfortunately that make take awhile and many businesses may close ( as we have seen all over the country ).
My 2cents.

I stopped opening these mails a long time ago, simply because I received way to many of them. interesting read nonetheless.
Good research, guys. I know a couple of clients who’d benefit from this.
I don’t think that daily deals dead, as people used to do everything online from shopping to business. And in their busy routine daily deals helps to get their desired products online without much time consumption.
Actually it depends to sales person or marketing person how to position the daily deal promotion through email. It depends to target country for email marketing and also you should position according their time to send the email marketing. If your target customer is SME you should use layman term not corporate term because they could not understand the corporate term. As soon as possible it should simple and specific.
Very interesting information. Thanks for sharing this. I guess I belong to those who think that daily deals were dead.
Now daily deals comes into a new techniques as dealfind doing.
